Microsoft LAPS Installation

This post is regarding ” Installation of Microsoft LAPS – Local Administrator Password Solution.

Microsoft’s LAPS is a useful tool for automatically managing Windows computer local Administrator passwords. LAPS stores the password for each computer’s local administrator account in Active Directory, secured in a confidential attribute in the computer’s corresponding Active Directory object.

LAPS helps to reduce the workload and help local administrator or desktop team to manage local administrator password in active directory for a number of machines.

Download LAPS software from Microsoft website and copy it to server where you want to install it. Below are the steps to install Microsoft LAPS – Local Administrator Password Solution on server.

  1. Join the server to domain network.
  2. Log on to your target server with domain admin rights or you can also use RBAC security model.
  3. Double click on the appropriate MSI installer for your platform (LAPS.x64.msi) to get started.

Click Next. Accept license agreement and click Next

For the first management machine, you should enable all the installation choices for management tools

Click Next

Click Install.

Click Finish.

In the start Menu, LAPS UI is available
