ADSI Editor

Hello All,

Hope this post finds you in good health and spirit.

In this post, we are going to discuss on ADSI Editor and its benefits.

ADSI Editor

ADSI-editor allows us to connect the active directory partitions or naming contexts and also enable create, modify and delete object in active directory along with edit attributes and perform searches.

Here you can choose or connect the active directory partition.

Open the Run console and type adsiedit.msc

Right click on Adsiedit and click on connect as per below screenshot.

Select configuration partition

Click on OK

Now you can see configuration partition opened in ADSI Editor.

if you do not know which partition or naming contexts has to selected then please click on drop down button and select of any known partition.

Once selected then click on connect and desired naming context connected and will show as per below screenshot.

Select IND-CHD site to see the attributes details that are associated with it.

You can also manage these attributes from here.

ADSI Editor lets us view objects and attributes that are not exposed in Active Directory management console.

We can also create/Modify and delete the AD object from ADSI Editor.Just search any of AD object and try to make changes to object attribute e.g. Company name.

Connect the domain naming context and click on new query.

Click on OK and it show mark query as below.

Right click on CN=Mark and go to properties.

It shows all attribute’s details of Mark.

Try to change the company name for Mark as per below screenshot.

Please add company name as WindowsTechno for Mark and click OK.

Now company name has been updated as WindowsTechno for Mark via ADSI Editor.
